It is a real entrepreneurial family: Anton Klapwijk and Willie Oranje, who started a business together with their son Bart on November 9, 2023. Zuivelhoeve open at the Akerkhof in Groningen.

Anton's father was a milkman in Rotterdam and went to customers with a horse and cart. Later he started a small grocery store, and Anton helped out before he could look over the counter. As a boy, Anton had only one dream: to have his own store. 'But then in the north,' said Willie, who grew up in Haren and who loved the humor, the down-to-earthness and honesty here. Eleven years ago they started a Zuivelhoeve: an old-fashioned cheese shop where customers quickly formed lines out the door. Not just for the cheese, the freshly roasted nuts, and the dairy products, but also for the personal attention, the conviviality, and the sense of community. Son Bart (31) quickly joined the team and has now been co-owner for a few years.

Together with their staff, Anton and Willie built their shop into a household name in Leeuwarden, a place where it was fun, where you could taste everything, where they thought along with you, wrapped presents, where people laughed. They rented a second building, just opposite the cheese shop: a special sausage shop, which also sold ice cream and fresh sandwiches.

In early 2023, they had the opportunity to sell their shop. It was time for something new. Son Bart was going on a world trip, while Anton and Willie spent months traveling through Europe with their caravan. But soon, all three discovered they had only one dream: a new shop. In Groningen. They discovered a small space for rent at the Akerkhof, next to the Van der Velde bookstore, and they consulted with Diane, the director of the shop. ZuivelhoeveHe was enthusiastic and encouraged them to embark on the adventure. The shop at Akerkhof has now been open for almost two years and is getting busier every week. People come for the cheese, freshly roasted nuts, chocolate, specialty beers and wines, the refrigerated dairy display case, the foreign cheeses, and gifts. Cheeses are stacked along the walls, reaching to the ceiling.

"The best job there is!" says Willie enthusiastically. "For us, every day is a celebration. Making the shop cozy. Wrapping presents. Giving advice. Making people feel like they're back in that old village shop, where everyone knew each other. With old-fashioned goodies, with a weekend bag full of surprises every week." "With a special student bag," says Bart, "a tip from my sister who studies in Groningen. Of course, you have to have something tasty with drinks."

Anton, Bart, and Willie believe it's important to collaborate frequently with other entrepreneurs. "It's so great when you have good connections and can strengthen each other," says Anton. "City dwellers, students, and tourists show that nothing beats Groningen!"
