Olives

Olives are the fruits of the olive tree. These olive trees grow around the Mediterranean region, where the climate is ideal for these trees. They are not ready to be harvested until autumn. Harvesting is still largely done manually. It is very labor-intensive work, with entire families working together to harvest them. A small part of the harvest is used for table olives, the majority of the harvest is used for making olive oil. This olive oil can be found in its pure form, but also in various other products such as shampoo, soap and other care products.

From bitter to delicious pleasure

When olives come off the tree, they are inedibly bitter. It takes several months to make it ready-to-eat. For this purpose, the olives are placed in a brine solution. This ensures that the bitter taste slowly disappears. After the brine bath, they are rinsed well so that the salty taste does not dominate. If desired, herbs, spices or a filling can be added to the fruits and the olives are ready for sale.

Species

In our range you will find different types of olives, each with its own Mediterranean flavor.

  • Green olives: the green olive is perhaps the most famous species. They are harvested early and are still somewhat unripe. The green variant has a mild taste, is often slightly salted and has a hard structure. They fit perfectly on a tapas board, in salads or simply as a snack.   • Black olives: for lovers of more intense flavors, we have the black olive in our range. This variety ripens longer than the green one. As it ripens, the color darkens. They are therefore somewhat softer and sweeter than the green ones. Black olives add a savory touch to pizzas, pasta or antipasti, for example.
  • Greek olives: with the Greek olive you bring the authentic taste of the Mediterranean to your table. They are often larger in size and have a firm bite. This makes them versatile: in a salad, as an aperitif or on a snack board.
  • Sweet olives: the Spanish olive is the basis of our sweet version. They are placed in a sweet marinade, creating a delicious contrast to the salty and savory flavors of other tapas. A perfect addition to your cheese board or dessert plate.

Healthy

Olives are not only tasty, but also very healthy! They contain few carbohydrates and many healthy fatty acids. They are also rich in vitamin E, iron, copper, calcium and antioxidants. Eating this fruit regularly is good for the heart and blood vessels, promotes blood circulation, has an anti-inflammatory effect and is good for brain health. They are also very versatile in use. A nice bowl of pesto olives with the a drink, the green version in your salad or a pizza with pieces of the black variety. They are suitable for any moment.
